In my childhood I was forced to eat a lot of raw papaya( boiled or curried). My parents thought it good for our digestive system which was actually true. It's a natural laxative and very effective in cleansing your bowel. However one funny thing about being a kid is that you protest whatever your parents think is good for you. So however well cooked the curry was I do not recollect having relished the same as much as I do now. Surprisingly my daughter loves it. My mother used to make it little bland whereas I make it spicy with a sprinkle of freshly made bengali garam masala paste. I'm sure your kids would love it if you cook it the way I do.
INGREDIENTS:
1 medium sized raw papaya
2 medium size potatoes
2 tbs mustard or any other vegetable oil
1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds
1 bayleaf
1 tbs ginger paste
1 tsp ground cumin powder
1 tsp ground dhania or coriander powder
3/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt and sugar to taste
3/4th tsp bengali garam masala paste( a freshly made paste of green cardamom,cinnemon and clove in equal proportions)
