This is a very wholesome dish which can be had with rice or chapati( indian bread) alongwith some salad or aachaar(pickle).It is also very easy to make with few ingredients.
You can make it with any yellow dal but I prefer it with Masoor or Moong dal.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup moong dal
1/2 cup each of different sliced/cubed vegetables of your choice like carrot,cauliflower,beans,bottlegourd( lauki),parwal,green peas ,potato etc.
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
2 whole dry red chilli
1 bayleaf
1 tsp ginger paste/thinly sliced ginger
1 tbs of ghee
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
few green chillies
salt to taste
1/2 tsp sugar
METHOD:
1. Boil dal in water with salt,turmeric powder and one or two green chillies.When the dal is half cooked add all the vegetables and cook till both dal and vegetables are boiled properly.
2.Heat ghee in a kadai,add cumin seeds,dry red chilli,green chilli(you can chop them if you like the dal hot),bay leaf .Cook till whole spices are lightly sauteed in ghee and you can smell the aroma.
3.Add boiled dal with vegetables.Add ginger paste.Cook for 2/3 minutes.Check seasoning and add sugar.
4.Serve hot with rice or chapati.
Tip: Dal's consistency should not be too runny but a little thick,so add hot water accordingly.
