It's my daughter's favorite. This recipe has two very nutricious ingredients viz. masoor dal and soya chunk, both high in protein and ideal for growing children.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup masoor dal( split red gram)
1 and 1/2 cup soya chunk( in India,Nutrella brand is my favorite)
salt to test
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
few green chillies as per taste
1 bay leaf
2 dried deseeded red chillies
1 large onion chopped
1 tbsp chopped garlic
1tbsp chopped ginger
1 large tomato chopped
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
2 tbsp of oil
METHOD:
1. Boil water in a saucepan. Add soya chunks and salt. Let it boil for two minutes. Drain the water in a collander and pour cold water. Then squeeze out water from soya chunks and keep aside.
2. Boil the dal in two cups of water with salt, turmeric and two green chillies.
3. Heat oil in a kadai. Add bay leaf, red chilli, chopped green chillies, chopped garlic and ginger. Saute for a while and then add onions. Once onion turns light brown add tomato and saute for 2/3 mins in medium flame.
4. Add soya chunks and lightly fry with the sauteed vegetables and spices. Add the dal and let it boil for 3/ 4 mins.Taste the seasoning.Add coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.
The consistency of this dish would be slightly on thicker side and not like usual dal. So needs to be added accordingly. The flavor of ginger, garlic and onion along with chopped coriander makes this dish a simple treat.
